David Montgomery had an outstanding 2021 season. If you were lucky enough to take the risk on him, he most likely helped you win a ring. Montgomery had 247 carries (4th in the NFL) for 1070 yards (tied for 5th in the NFL) and rushed for 8 TDs (tied for 13th).
However, what version of David Montgomery will we see in 2021? Was 2020 a fluke? Yes, Montgomery had a great year 2021 but out of the gate it was very similar to his rookie season campaign. Entering week 12 he averaged 52 rushing yards per game and 3.6 YPC over 131 attempts.
His rushing stats actually decreased from his rookie season, where he averaged 55 rushing yards per game and 3.7 YPC in his rookie campaign.
In the first 9 weeks in 2020, Montgomery had double digit carries and ZERO 100 yard rushing games and only 1 rushing TD.
In the first 9 weeks in 2020, Montgomery had double digit carries and ZERO 100 yard rushing games and only 1 rushing TD.
Montgomery was able to make his fantasy owners happy from week 12 to 16. He averaged 5.2 YPC rest of season. He had three 100 yard games and found the end zone EIGHT times!!
In the final 6 weeks of the season, he played Green Bay (twice), Detroit, Houston, Minnesota, and Jacksonville. Those teams finished the season ranked No. 18, 27, 29, 30, and 24 in run defense.
With the lack of production to start the season, coaching staff and QB questions, it might be time to take advantage of Montgomery’s great end to the season and sell him. His value may never be any higher then now.
Plus the Bears will get a healthy Cohen back in 2021 after he missed most of the season with a ACL Tear. Montgomery finished the season with 54 receptions, more than double his rookie season total.I expect that number to go down with a health Cohen back in 2021. #FantasyFootball
