Awaken Realms (polish board game publisher of Tainted Grail fame) launched their latest crowdunfing campaign on their own platform, called Gamefound (currently used mostly for pledge management).

This is the performance of all their campaigns compared.

1/?
ISS Vanguard (the campaign in question) is on par with Nemesis, their 1st large success on Kickstarter when looking at the number of backers (the fairest comparison point as different games have different price point).

It is still quite far from their biggest successes.

2/?
Still an impressive performance for a first on a new platform.

Was it worth it? Short term, nope.

They subsidised quite a lot the campaign (giving $5 vouchers to anyone who has ever used gamefound it seems?).
Their opportunity cost is > to the KS 5% commission.

3/?
And they spend money, energy, and mental bandwidth to build the platform.

Long term? Very hard to tell. They have nice features missing on KS - but anyone else but Awaken Realms will be cautious before moving to another platform and lose a %tage of their backers.

4/?
Not to mention, I can see a number of entities being wary of using a platform owned by a competitor, compared to the more "neutral" KS.

It seems like it can become a strong "2nd platform" for tabletop games, but hard for them to take a significant chunk of KS' market share.
