His vocal versatility allowed him to transitions through different genres and different vocal technique, from edgy rock, to soft & light. His ability to mix his head and chest voices to hit raspy full high notes in songs like Earth Song and Dirty Diana is till this day unmatched and I've never see anyone who can pull off those vocals with the strength and intensity. A one of a kind vocalist.
He was also able to create distinct sounds and vocal hiccups (Hee Hee's) as well as beatboxing to add and control the emotion in his vocal delivery.
