What we saw last week in Washington was truly shocking. But we can’t sit up here in Canada and pretend that our country is immune from the racist and hate-filled beliefs that led to these horrifying events. (1/5)
Sadly, some politicians, like Erin O'Toole, fan these flames by engaging with organizations like The Rebel.

In 2019, Mr. O'Toole promised that he’d stopped talking with The Rebel since they aren't "a serious news source." I agree!

So when did he decide they had become one?
This is a pattern for the Conservatives: say one thing and do another.

As Canadians watched extremists storm the U.S. Capitol, Mr. O'Toole talked tough but stayed silent when his Deputy Leader wore a MAGA hat.
The Conservatives still continue to encourage their supporters to “join our fight” to "take back Canada" and even accused the government of trying to rig elections.

Same aggressive, conspiratorial rhetoric as President Trump and his followers.
Mr. O'Toole thinks he can sit on the fence; keep his far-right supporters happy while playing to the centre at the same time.

He's calling shots from the same playbook right-wing American politicians have used.

Canadian voters see straight through that duplicity.
