And yeah it was bad. What happens when a narcissist interviews a narcissist.
But look I learnt some things - Perth is code for oppression. Tim tells us despite coming from generations of surgeons Perth is the most isolated capital city in the world. #PrayersForPerth
He didn’t know of privilege bc his family went on camping holidays instead of skiing trips. #WeShallOvercome
Alternatively the real oppression/privilege thing is abt mental illness cause turns out some of Tims mates are crazy and he feels privileged that he is not. Okay I’m paraphrasing. But yeah forget abt race and class and gender and sexuality - it all comes down to mental health
And look his is really comfortable in acknowledging his privilege guys.
In describing his success he talks abt how his friends had jobs while he was clever. Im still wondering how he ate while being clever and unemployed 💁🏽‍♀️
But apparently there’s a danger in talking too much about structural oppression according to Tim to which Stan agrees bc after all we’re *cosmopolitian*
But look Tim is at peace with the world (reasonably) he says, bc he is at ease with talking with Princes and paupers...
To which Stan takes as an invitation to name drop the famous ppl he too has met.
And then both lol about how two average guys ‘made it’ in a weird ‘look at us now moment’ forgetting that there’s an audience watching them fawn over each other.
Tim does point out that it’s bc of his success that so many others have benefitted so it’s not all about him - I mean guys he gives to charity!
His defence of the ginger/prejudice song was weird - when asked he says ‘well I could defend it or say I have no need to defend it’.
Uhhh Tim you forgot option C.
He does let it slip to Stan that he knows some Black ppl who like it tho. 👌🏼
He at one point confesses he wrote it when he didn’t know anything and he wouldn’t write it now.
Despite this he then has a whinge about twitter not being a place for useful dialogue...um how is twitter different to songs you write where you confess you don’t know shit abt?
But the clincher has to be the end where Tim claims that people aren’t evil - they just haven’t read enough books. How *enlightening* lols
And there’s this weird conversation abt the common ppl who are trapped with the task of survival and buying a house and therefore can’t think critically abt the world or read books. Fkg yuck.
He constructs this weird narrative of the left are arrogant wealthy folk and the right are salt of the earth battlers who just haven’t read the right books - and by books we obvs mean the ones written by white men.
But look I came to this ep on the basis of Stan trending and I can’t believe I’m saying it but he wasn’t the worst - deeply problematic - but the stuff that came out of his mouth paled in comparison to the nonsense Tim espoused.
It is quite telling tho about the platforms Stan is permitted to speak on and the resistance there is against how he speaks to white ppl in this marvellous cosmopolitan world we live in. #OnePlusOne
