Ohio Democrat @RepTimRyan, who leads the House subcommittee that funds U.S. Capitol Police, is holding a virtual media availability to discuss what he knows about the investigation into last Wednesday's Capitol attack and security preparations for Inauguration Day:
. @RepTimRyan said "there's going to be additional [federal] money that [Congress will] provide" to ensure Inauguration Day is safe.

“There will be a good deal of security in addition to Capitol Police…Secret Service…Park Police."

“We will make sure Washington, DC is secure.”
. @RepTimRyan said there will be a "significant number” of National Guard units in Washington for Inauguration Day.

While states are being generous with their Guard resources, Ryan said “this is also probably going to take away from some of the [ #COVID19] vaccine distribution."
. @RepTimRyan said the Capitol attack is having a "ripple effect" across the country because National Guard resources are being pulled to DC.

“They are continuing to pull resources away from" #COVID19 vaccine distribution in states.

“This is going to have a national impact.”
. @RepTimRyan said at least two Capitol Police officers have been suspended for actions during Wednesday's Capitol attack.

One officer had taken selfies with some rioters; another put a #MAGA hat on and started directing rioters.

“The Capitol Police are looking at everybody..."
. @RepTimRyan said he will vote for the 25th Amendment resolution tomorrow:

“I feel like that’s the cleanest way for us to get rid of the president and to reduce the imminent harm that he can cause.”

Ryan will also vote Wednesday to impeach President Trump for a second time.
Regarding use of force (or lack-thereof), @RepTimRyan said, "Clearly lives were being put at risk…mob rule had taken over."

He said moving forward, a conversation has to be had about violence at places like Capitol Hill.

“Does that aspect play into how they should respond?”
. @RepTimRyan said he's heard there are 10-15 investigations into Capitol Police officers related to Wednesday's attack, but he doesn't know details.

“The interim chief is taking aggressive action within the department to find out if there was any” help or coordination.
. @RepTimRyan said Capitol Police is run by a board and there are bipartisan convos taking place among lawmakers about providing increased oversight.

We’ll have to make “a lot of changes around the structure of the buildings, the perimeters, the roles and responsibilities..."
. @RepTimRyan on why he feels impeachment is necessary if the 25th isn't invoked:

“We cannot, as members of Congress, set a precedent that a president of the United States can foment an insurrection with domestic terrorists here in our country…without any repercussions at all.”
. @RepTimRyan's virtual press briefing is over.

Really appreciate the congressman & his team providing us with updates, especially since we're not getting regular briefings from Capitol Police, White House or other federal agencies.

This was Ryan's 3rd briefing since the attack.
