I just quit working for Xfinity/Comcast. I want families to know that the special Essentials program they offer to low income households for 9.95/mo is only 25mbps and in almost every case, not an adequate speed for children to do their live “zoom” online class work.
I was struggling with the requirements to pitch additional lines of business to struggling individuals in the wake of Covid at any cost.
Also, TV Broadcast fees were just raised to just under $20. The company sets these fees and in the wake of a pandemic has already made big gains in profitability off families struggling and yet, raised this arbitrary fee anyway.
The only reason to pay them for live TV is sports. A customer now, I will continue to get a 400mbps connection and use Xfinity Mobile (which has been costing me about 16.72/mo on top of my internet bill.)
Keep in mind too that they are Raising rates/fees while our country faces this nightmare but they also cut all the costs of leasing call center buildings, stocking office supplies, bathroom supplies, handing out snacks/drinks/prizes, surprise lunches, etc. it’s gross and I’m done
Many agents on the phone will tell customers that a tv/internet/landline bundle with a speed of 100mbps thst costs less than an internet only speed of 600mbps will work just as perfect for your household when it won’t. B/c they’ll make triple the $$ on their paycheck.
I might write up a short series on Medium about m experience there if anyone is interested.
A lot of people have additional questions about how to best lower their bills, etc. I'll try my best to reply to comments and tweets when I can but ultimately, you can lower your bill by owning your own modem, removing extra services, lowering your internet speed.
