It me, just sitting here thinking about the futility of arguing with people who really, truly, deeply consider Black people to be inferior and thus will come up with any and every excuse for why our cries for freedom are violent and our subjugation is necessary.
The me of 2013-14 used to try and be patient and talk through the racism of trolls, but it was like exposing my throat to a predator. They used it as an opportunity to attack with slurs, insults, and racist links and imagery. They'd bait their followers to join in.
I tried reaching across the aisle and it only exposed me to more hate. They didn't want their minds changed. They wanted me to recognize my place.
I think about it whenever my friends encourage me to "consider both sides" or warn against "echo chambers" because it's like hearing, "Well, they do have a point."
And then my "friends" get mad when I block them.
But I'm not about to sit here and argue my humanity.
