A satisfying piece to work on as I was allowed to pull back with the composition for narrative purposes. Also got to illustrate Kaya's new hair!
Thanks to @TheVorthosCast for the preview!

Brief!
It's not -too much- to try to show, but it's definitely a decent amount to try to build up the story of the piece. i definitely wanted tot include the skellies as it helps heighten the danger.

thumbnails at card size. Caves can seem like a lighting nightmare but they actually provide a lot of opportunity to get creative; arbitrary ambient light, dramatic light, and dark recesses to help frame things.
sent in two sketches, hoping they'd pick A but figuring they'd pick B (usually like to be closer to the action, more "cinematic") Was happy A was chosen! Kaya being smaller and the scene presented more formally helps make it feel more about the place/action and not the person
most times I shoot my own ref, no exception here! My mom's old leather coat by the way. barely fit
Also first ref shot at my new place. bright walls are an issue - I want the scene to be dark but it bounces light around too much. since fitted my lights with cones to restrict it

Always like to make a tight sketch before adding the colours in again. I feel like instead about worrying about noodling all the details into place, this gives me a solid foundation and I only have to worry about colours and values.
Gif!
and some details. I feel like I lost her likeness from rough colours to final, which I sometimes do. Overall still happy with it.
Thanks for reading!

Oh, I also implied but didn't literally portray torches, I felt that apart from making the angles of the light weird, those bright spots would be distracting.
So they're just out of frame
