New working paper! Joint with Daron Acemoglu, @JADHazell and @pascualrpo. "AI and Jobs: Evidence from Online Vacancies" https://tinyurl.com/y2zgjusj . (1/7)
What are the effects of AI on labor markets? Our bottom line: AI seems to be replacing humans in certain tasks. But AI is not yet having large consequences on the aggregate labor market. (2/7)
We study AI using data from @Burning_Glass on the near-universe of online vacancies in US from 2010 onwards w/ establishment and occupation information.

We label establishments as “AI exposed” if their workers perform tasks that are compatible w/current AI capabilities. (3/7)
FINDING 1: AI vacancies are growing rapidly, even outside information technology industries, and especially in AI exposed establishments (4/7)
FINDING 2: AI exposed establishments simultaneously post vacancies for new skills that they did not previously require, and post fewer vacancies for the skills that they previously required. (5/7)
FINDING 3: AI exposed establishments _reduce_ overall hiring in non-AI vacancies, even as they increase AI vacancies. (6/7)
FINDING 4: We don’t find impacts of AI exposure on employment or wages at the aggregate occupation or industry level→AI not yet having aggregate labor market consequences.
