The Township of @northdumfries has many stormwater retention ponds. These ponds are not safe for any type of recreation activity, any season of the year. Stormwater ponds are designed to prevent flooding and erosion.
They collect rainwater and other precipitation that runs over parking lots, roads, and buildings. Water is consistently flowing in and out of the pond. The water may contain road salt and other contaminants that affect ice quality.
They have changing water levels due to the constant flowing of water causing inconsistent ice thickness. These unpredictable changes can cause ice conditions that may pose an immediate threat of injury or life safety. Please keep off all stormwater ponds.
