hey! apparently grimes now has otherkin in their bio and from what I've heard their kin is the trinity bomb test, which, really isn't something that you can do? leave it to elon's partner to gentrify something they know nothing about. Here's a bit of info abt 'kin from a coyote!
Otherkin are those that believe that they are something other than human on an integral level. This is usually a being or an object, not an event. Therians are those that believe they are terrestrial animals, but some species like dragons, werewolves, etc. still use the term!
Otherkin started out in the 1970s with the silver elves, a group who, thought they were elves! this later transitioned to being online, where it became known as "elfkind". Otherkind was coined to denote those that were not elves, and then later on the "d" was dropped off!
Modern Therianthropy started in 1994 on alt.horror.werewolves when users started discussing that they felt like they WERE werewolves, as well as a lot of other things (even a pontiac firebird- but we still don't know if that was a troll.)
At some point (I'm not sure when) the term fictionkin came around to denote those that identify as something from fictional media. Be it a Pokemon, an individual character, or a fictional race, these people are all considered fictionkin!
Later on (around early 2010s) after the community had been around for a while outsiders started to pick up on it, and used "kin" to mean something that they heavily relate to! This is not otherkin, but the word is borrowed from us. It's a bit confusing!
Alterhuman is a term used by those that live the "human" experience a bit differently! This encompasses otherkin, therians, plural systems, and much more!
A lot of otherkin and therians experience shifts! There are a few kinds of shifts, the most prominent being phantom and mental! Phantom shifts are like phantom limb syndrome- you can feel parts of your body (fur, paws, tail, etc) that aren't there!
Mental shifts are where your headspace turns to that of what you are! It's a bit hard to explain, but it's less concious thought, and more just acting and reacting! the experience of this can differ based on what you are, and can very in strength (i.e. full vs half shifted)
