hey! for all my fellow students: your mental health is important, yes? maybe consider taking steps to *prevent* an overload of stress and anxiety before the semester starts, rather than seeing your mental health practices as merely coping mechanisms. a đŸ§”(1/6)
this really goes for anybody, but it’s disheartening to see those close to me have an attitude of “I’m gonna put myself through hell but I’ll deal w/ it when I get there” in school. sure, the stress and anxiety is often unavoidable, but there are things you can do now! (2/6)
this is gonna look different for everybody. for me, it’s making sure that when I schedule classes, I have ample time in the day for a full lunch. (now of course on fridays I only have a 30 min break bc of a professor’s scheduling conflict, but it wasn’t my fault đŸ˜Ș). (3/6)
if there’s a counseling center at your school, take the opportunity now to find someone to go to if you think you might need that support.
schedule mental breaks and make it a part of your routine to regularly check in w/ yourself and be mindful of what’s happening. (4/6)
again, certain things are unavoidable. being in school (during a pandemic) is hard! but you can be proactive and start taking care of yourself now, even — and especially! — if you think you’ll be “fine.”
you don’t have to wait until you’re hanging by a thread! (5/6)
you’ll thank yourself in the future for taking even the smallest steps to pay attention to your mental health and learn how to deal w/ certain things before you find yourself in a situation you don’t want to be in.
here’s to student health & wellness in 2021 đŸŸđŸ’• (6/6)
