THE ONLY CONSTANT IS CHANGE.

Learn something from one the most famous doctors, philosophers, and psychologists ever - Carl Jung:

"The paradox is one of our most valued spiritual possessions."

What are paradoxes and how can we use them?

A thread👇
Paradoxes indicate that there is something deeply flawed in understanding basic truths:

-Paradoxes are logical problems meant to be solved.

-A paradox is something that logically can't exist and yet does.

How is 'change' a constant?
WAR is needed for peace.

-Immune cells constantly attacking bacteria, viruses, & parasites 24/7 allow you to live healthily.

-Nuclear explosions on a star millions of miles away allow for a peaceful spring day.

Not everything is as it seems.
Why was Jung so enamored by Paradoxes? What are they useful for?

-In the tension of opposites, a paradox is a valid, effective way to foster growth.

Want big muscles? Damage them by lifting heavy weights.

Want more money? Empty out your savings and invest or build a business.
for Jung paradoxes were meant for:

"Widening of consciousness beyond the narrow confines of a tyrannical intellect and it enriches life, because only paradox comes anywhere near to comprehending the fullness of life."
He believed that every man has an innate spiritual or religious impulse.

-A deep desire for connection to the Whole, to contact the Divine, to awaken to the Self, the inner divine core in one’s being.

-Given this innate impulse, we quest for meaning in life.
The Divine is transcendent.

-It needs more than intellect alone. You must approach the Divine and the quest for personal meaning with more than logic.

-For this quest we need paradox—the irrational non-logic that allows for the expression of transcendental truth.
Jung said "we must admit paradox into our lives, for only it allows us to approach the “sacred figures” that live within, and only paradox does justice to the unknowable."

Have you already found yourself?

Do you know what you truly want?
"By its very nature the unknowable cannot be expressed with logic and clarity; only ambiguity, contradiction and ambivalence can “give adequate expression to the indescribable nature” of transcendental situations."
Okay, okay now my brain hurts. Gimme some practical info instead.

-Nobody likes a brain freeze without ice cream.

-We hate contradictions.

-We avoid problems that confront our reason.

And yet this is SO IMPORTANT for real growth, for real transformation.
The best parts of life can be found in the transcendental realms, in the paradoxes.

I once heard a scholar say:

-The best food that we will eat is honey, and it is the vomit of bees.

-The best drink that we will drink is water, and all animals drink it.
-The best smell that we will smell is musk and oud, and it is the mucus and glands of a gazelle, and dead wood.

-The best thing that we will wear is silk, and it is the excretion of a worm.

-The best Human feeling is the meeting of two excretory organs.
Think about paradoxes.

-Not eating anything at all is extremely healthy (Fasting).

-Not doing anything at all enhances your brain (meditation).

-Failing again and again increase your chances at success.

Success is an outcome of improvement, improvement is a result of failure.
What are your favorite paradoxes and what do they teach?
