What's wrong with Russell Wilson?

He plays in an offensive system defenses have figured out.

Thread breaking down this play from Seahawks first drive

⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
This is the initial alignment prior to the snap, and on which Wilson bases his pre-snap reads.

Rams show 2 high safeties, which leads to Wilson to check to an intermediate/underneath route.
Here is the formation at the time of the snap.

Lockett has motioned to the far side of the formation. The top safety has crept up and the CB on Metcalf on the far side has backed off, signs that the Rams are playing single high, but Russ has already checked to the short game.
Immediately post snap

58 for the Rams (at the near 25) pays no attention to Hollister chipping and releasing at the bottom of the image. He sprints across the formation to a specific spot.
Play progressing:

58 setting up shop in an interesting location in the middle of the field as Lockett and Metcalf close the distance on the DBs covering them. Hollister has released his block and entered the pattern.
Just before Russ throws the pass

Aaand, as Lockett sets up for a curl route just past the sticks, 58 is exactly in the middle of Russ and Lockett, leading Russ to deliver the pass to Hollister short of the sticks (which falls incomplete in any case).
(Full play again)

This is how defenses shut down Russ the second half of the season.

Show 2 high safeties -> funnels plays short

Underneath defenders jump primary reads/routes -> force plays to disadvantageous routes

Russ had issues, but his biggest issue was the system.
