This is fantastic. Please read, @SenatorLankford. https://twitter.com/drmoore/status/1348668245616824323
Let me add that our evangelical leaders should have remained firmly opposed to Trump. Moore wasnât crazy and it wasnât difficult to predict it would end in disaster. Many leaders knew Trump was dangerous and deceptive, but chose to overlook his faults.
The conspiracy theory which culminated in an insurrection required four years of undermining the very idea of truth by this administration, the toleration of lies about the media and violent rhetoric.
Senators, representatives, pundits, and religious leaders had to ignore, condone, or perpetuate the administrationâs propaganda for it to attain such widespread plausibility. Far too few chose to say, âNo.â
The path out of this goes through repentance. And as Moore rightly points out, that may require people to lose their political seat. It may also require that people resign or retire from punditry. It would be good for their souls and the nation.
After repentance comes shoring up the ruins. It is very evident that evangelicals (on the whole) were not ready for a GOP candidate who was completely unfit for office. We did not have a category for that. We did not have a political theology that could guide us.
Such theology exists. We have great resources available. But our political vision is almost entirely formed by the gop and right wing media. As long as that is the case, we will be unable to respond to crises like this.
