Trauma - the underlying trauma is at the core of everything that drives him. To me, Bruce is a character always wrestling with that trauma. There are other aspects that make the fantasy functional and somewhat believable, but that core trauma that drives him has to be there. https://twitter.com/storyatthecore/status/1348688624791875585
To me, Bruce is a person that lives in the dark fighting for the light. He cannot be a murderer, someone who makes it a goal to take lives. But he has to be someone that always fights not to cross that line. It can’t be a simple matter of blanket morality; it must challenge him.
He has to be an intelligent problem solver, a quick thinker and a meticulous planner. Make no mistake this is a guy who knows he will have to break bones, and has no compunction against doing it. But he doesn’t want to get dead in the process.
He has to have compassion tucked into all that armor. Not a bleeding heart, weepy eyed kind of compassion, but he knows where his priorities are and that innocent lives are more important than getting the bad guy. I don’t need him rubbing kids heads or exchanging wit, just do it.
He has to be focused and driven but always feeling the draw towards the things he can’t, or shouldn’t, have. Convicted but, somewhere in the back of his kind, conflicted as well. Able to be tempted if the offer is right.
I don’t need the house or the cave specifically. I was always Ok with the 70’s penthouse Bruce they used in TDK. Yes he has to have money, but I prefer he work alone. I love Robin but I can’t square him taking in a child and putting him through all that. It just seems wrong.
I’m sure I could write a whole thing but this is what I have off the top.
