“The climate crisis is deeply intertwined with the crisis of our democracy and white supremacy.” - @ayanaeliza

Since Wednesday’s attempted coup, we’ve taken a step back from social media. But today, we’re emerging bold and clear-eyed and we hope you’ll join us. A thread:
2/ The same villains who are destroying our democracy in the name of white supremacy are destroying our climate—with communities of color hit first and worst.
3/ And the Venn diagram of disinformation networks that spout lies about voter fraud and those that spout lies about the reality of climate change? It’s a perfect circle.
4/ Last week, right wing extremists destroyed normal. How do we emerge?

First, we impeach and remove Trump. Cruz and Hawley must resign or be expelled from Congress. Because history shows that, without swift consequences, failed coups often lead to successful coups.
5/ Next, we fight for democracy reform—which is a climate issue. Eliminating the filibuster, passing a new Voting Rights Act, and granting DC and PR statehood are clear ways we can make our democracy stronger and ensure we can effectively mobilize against the climate crisis.
6/ (And don’t forget: if DC were a state, its governor could have mobilized its National Guard in response to an attempted coup.)
7/ Lastly, we must act on the level of climate ambition this moment requires. Biden has a mandate to deliver bold climate action—and the fact that voters sent Ossoff and Warnock to the Senate cements that.

We won’t accept half-measures that don’t meet the demands of science.
8/ We will be fighting tooth and nail for justice, for a stronger democracy, and for a clean energy future. We hope you’ll commit to these righteous fights along with us. https://evergreenaction.com/
