2/There's always been a number of non-comformists, normally eccentrics, who defined themselves and went about their lives not caring what the rest of society of them, and they've always been more or less tolerated although recognized as being strange.

3/The difference between age-old eccentrics and TRAs is the TRAs are demanding that the rest of society accept them as "normal" when in fact they are not normal, either statistically or functioning wise.
