Several classified SECRET laptops were stolen from the Capitol Building during Wednesday’s chaotic events & few of them were left open & logged into Government classified network known as SIRPRNet which stands for , or the Secret Internet Protocol Router Network. 1/7
It's basically Department of Defense’s classified version of the civilian internet. It is a network of secure computers and servers that allows users from the Department of Defense, the Department of State, and other government bodies to transmit classified information. 2/7
Following the breach of the Capitol building, the SIPRNet was shut down for a portion of the day before an update was pushed out. Operations center of the United States Army Special Operation Command, USASOC, sent out an email to all personnel the same day. 3/7
Email stated that any SIPRNet computers not accounted for by the end of the day would be dropped from the network which also demonstrate that department doesn't have any geographic restriction & monitoring on these assets. 4/7
In this video, @SenJeffMerkley mentioned that his laptop was stolen unfortunately https://twitter.com/SenJeffMerkley/status/1347039504528498688 5/7
The Office of Senate Security and Office of House Security, respectively, have oversight over the security clearance process for congressional staffers. The background investigations for both the House and Senate are conducted by the FBI. 6/7
Now the biggest question - What access does some one have inside the building through these Laptop. I'll share more details tomorrow 7/7
