The 2021 NBA G League Draft is today...

This draft will be historically different for reasons, both good & bad.

Read on for a thread about player eligibility issues, implications on this season & future ones, the Ignite Team's impact, good people to follow, things to read, etc.
A number of players whose rights are held by teams that have opted out of the season can be drafted by another team and have their rights loaned, just for this season.

Given the nature of this expedited campaign, not sure if that's fully worth it. #GLeagueDraft
Obviously trades can be worked out between both teams, to accommodate the player and make things makes sense for everyone involved. That doesn't always happen.

Teams that opted out may be more inclined though, in an attempt to acquire future assets.

The players from teams that opted out are arguably in a tough spot, especially if a trade for their rights isn't worked out.

If they're not drafted, there's a greater likelihood they don't play and thus don't get paid. Several players have voiced that concern. #GLeagueDraft
. @Dakota_Schmidt & @RidicUpside have alluded to this...it's likely a lot of rookies get drafted today over some of the more known names.

This allows teams to build, roll dice on young talent and acquire their G League rights in the process. Same can't be said about some vets.
It's important to remember that Ignite team featuring Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd, etc., wasn't expected to compete in a full G League season. This shortened campaign makes that possible.

The Ignite team's presence is the driving force behind any resemblance of a season (cont.)
The G League is extremely motivated to give the Ignite team some game action. The stakes are high, the investment is steep.

There's been talks about how to pull off a tournament of some kind involving the Ignite team for months...hence the scrimmages at the end of last year.
Putting together a 15 game "season," at this point, under these circumstances, is just trying to make the best out of a difficult situation.

Priority above anything else, is to get the Ignite team the exposure and action they were promised/motivated by....not a terrible thing.
