If we don't vaccinate about half the population will end up eventually getting COVID-19. This carries a 1% chance of death. So every 200 doses of vaccine end up saving approximately 1 life. 200 doses of vaccine cost $4000 (assuming $20/dose) plus 20 minutes of labor to give.
So the cost of saving a life through giving a random person a dose of vaccine is about $4060. We typically value saving a life at around $2m. So this is literally the best ROI that anything the government can do has. We should be dropping nearly everything to get shots into arms.
Giving someone a shot of COVID 19 vaccine is worth nearly $2m to society. There is NOTHING better government can be doing right now.
Anyone who knows how to give a shot should be standing in parking lots right now with a supply of vaccines injecting them into people's arms. It should be our society's highest priority.
