Abolition doesn’t mean no consequences. Every single one of them should be named and known in their communities for what they are. They can’t just go back home to their families like they didn’t try to overthrow the country. Abolition still includes accountability. https://twitter.com/stooplites/status/1348661967020556290
Why are (white radical) motherfuckers always most interested in discussing/critiquing abolition when it comes to the most extreme cases? So fucking annoying. We are in a moment of mass transformation that must center and protect the most marginalized first and foremost.
We don’t begin abolition practices w/ extreme dangerous cases. We start with people in jail bc they are poor. People whose crimes were petty theft, smoking pot, & not even crimes at all. GTFO here with “what about abolition” for these fuckers who are active threats.
I also love that my practices are supposed to 100% align with the world I want to live in when my actual reality makes such a thing impossible. I can want a prison free world & also want a world where violent white supremacists are prevented from doing further harm.
I can work toward the abolition of prisons and still recognize when the existing world does not yet contain the structures or resources we would need to handle such an extreme case outside of the existing system.
