780 Muslim boys and men (yes, boys) have been imprisoned there, subjected to horrific torture and violence against their spirit and bodyminds.
this includes forced medication that has been demonstrated to cause permanent neurological damage and violent ideations. the US Army knew this and did it anyway (thank you to @jeff_kaye)
thinking about those who are no longer alive. some murdered by the us military. some died by suicide. those who the military says died by suicide but families and detainees have rejected as coverup.
thinking about all the children who have grown up without their parent. families who only learned abt the status of their imprisoned loved ones thru media sources (h/t @Dr_Maha_Hilal),
the countless Muslims who have been released to yet other jails and prisons around the world, who have been released to countries where they did not speak the same languages with scant if any support, those who have now been disappeared,
those who now live with psych disabilities and complex, chronic medical health conditions and disabilities and do not receive support or have access to medical care.
thinking about the remaining 40 Muslim men at GTMO, most without any charges. and to be clear, those with charges didnt deserve any of this shit. no one did.
there have been outbreaks of covid at gtmo. as of reporting earlier this year there are no ventilators or medical teams equipped to care for covid spread. army personnel and their families can travel to the US for medical care, but the Muslims imprisoned cannot.
