Let me help u out here @JakeAnbinder: #ItsTheSpeculationStupid

And btw when it comes to #YIMBY oppo, ull find no love 4 ‘em among damn near every org pushing housing justice long b4 @NeverSassyLaura started complaining a/b “where she was gonna live”
@LATenantsUnion is pretty new https://twitter.com/jakeanbinder/status/1348312258993123329
Claiming that these new toxic mostly young mostly middle class mostly white orgs funded by developers & big industry are providing needed focus/action on housing segregation & are here to save low-income BIPOC is wrong on more levels than I care to name. #WhiteWashing
Tackling housing segregation has long been a cause led by marginalized ppl & racial justice orgs. YIMBY is neither. Instead of focusing on Cupertino & the perps, YIMBY real goal is a remaking of Compton & Crenshaw. The rest is ancillary. That’s the difference. Most see that.
And btw claiming that the perps are first & primarily homeowners (and not the $250 trillion real estate industry #REcartel that profits mightily), is a big old red herring that lots of smart ppl are guilty of using.
See: industry convincing white homeowners to sell low due to “dirty” influx of Blacks & profit by selling high to new Blk homeowners w/higher interest rates & other schemes to make $$ off both sides of deal. @KeeangaYamahtta telling of this history doesnt get enough attn/praise.
Even in hoods like Crenshaw with 30-40% Blk homeownership rates, the game/focus is to pressure Blks (many of whoms only source of wealth is their home) to sell low, put 50-100k remaking the modest home to price out Blks & cater to incoming whites.
#IDontNeedMarbleCountertops
The pressure to sell is focused on the less well kept homes/apt bldgs/commercial lots & the distressed homeowners, b/c there is greater margins to be made by speculators profiting off their misery & taking advantage of a history of systemic wealth suppression/inequality.
Just check out Zillow’s sales history for these homes & you can see this play out, and begin to understand should you care Jake why there are no “We Buy Houses for Cash” signs in the “high opportunity” communities. #ItsTheSpeculationStupid
