Today it's @HeritageFundUK @HeritageFundNI #heritagetreasuresday!

The Old Museum Building @oldmuseum, is one of Belfast's @belfastcc hidden heritage treasures. Built by Belfast Natural History & Philosophical Society, 1831 as the 'Belfast Museum' predecessor to @UlsterMuseum!
2/5🔎🏛️The @old_museum was designed by Thomas Duff and Thomas Jackson in the Greek Revival style, as a meeting place for the Belfast Natural History & Philosophical Society #BNHPS, and a home for their members’ varied collections from across the world. #HeritageTreasuresDay
3/5 🏛️📣The @old_museum, features a portico that is an exact copy of the octagon tower of Adronicus in Athens. Cornices & capitals continue the Greek theme, with Greek fret patterns & acanthus motifs. A balcony & spiral staircase features on the top floor. #HeritageTreasures
4/5 🔎🏛️Collections were transferred by #BNHPS to the Belfast Corporation in 1910, and are now held by the @UlsterMuseum, including Takibuti the Mummy. The building was subsequently housed the RSUA, @ArchitectureNI, and the Old Museum Arts Centre, now @TheMACBelfast.
5/5 🏛️⚒️ #BNHPS has owned & used @old_museum for meetings & lectures for 190 years. Since 2017, @ulsterahs has occupied part of the OMB as a meanwhile use, and have been working with #BNHPS to plan the #OMBBackToLife project. Supported by @HeritageFundNI.
