“I think we need to come into this session with an open mind,” Gov. Cooper said in an interview on Friday. He expects a “real attempt” to find common ground on the budget, health care and criminal justice reform. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article248343245.html #ncpol #ncga
He also said he wants to work with #ncga Berger and Moore on economic development.
As the new legislative session is about to start, the same key players are at the top as in 2019: the Democratic governor, Republican Senate leader and House speaker.

I've got more from my interview with Gov. Cooper that you can read in this story and upcoming #ncga legislative session previews, including one about #nced.
The #ncga starts its "long" session on Wednesday, which in North Carolina means the one when they do the biennial state budget. In NC, there's no set number of legislating days like in other states, so "long" could mean many things. The 2019 session was definitely long. (so long)
That 2019 #ncga session was also when I first moved over to the state politics beat (from covering #BullCitypol). One of my focuses then was the state budget and state employees, and it will be again this session, along with covering the governor.
I'm excited about the start of the #ncga. Wednesday is expected just to be the one-day "hey let's set the schedule and decide what we're doing" session, then they'll likely break for two weeks before coming back for the long haul.
