i won’t say it often, and i might delete it later, but fandom’s readiness to label creators as pedos based on drawings or fics truly dilutes the label for actual predators who prey on children. nobody knows if it’s just pearl-clutching anime idiots or a real alarm anymore.

i don’t pull this out of my ass. i work in an area that defines illegal material of this kind as Child Exploitation Material. it means there must be a victim, a true victim whether alive or deceased. classifying drawings or stories as pedo will only label you as a waste of time.

why? because police don’t arrest people for drawings, or fiction. you know that. i know that. everyone knows that. so why do people say it? because it’s morality-endorsed bullying. it’s a way to harass other people and feel good doing it. they’re ~pedos~ so it’s okay. it’s not.

if adults genuinely cared about stopping pedos they’d be honeypots on dodgy chat sites submitting information to police. they’d be hunting actual freaks grooming underage kids. but screaming about fiction? god, you losers.

there isn’t enough funding to policing areas that actively try to hunt shithead pedos in chat rooms. they’d clone themselves fifty times over if it could save one more kid, and there are fuckapples out there wasting energy on things that DON’T EVEN EXIST.

this is what i think about every time i run into a ‘xyz is pedo ship, let’s get them’ fandom dogpile. i think about the understaffed teams that could use just five more sets of hands. and there’s probably fifteen thousand of you. more. and you’re doing this shit.

i know people will read this with flat eyes thinking i’m excusing problematic content. they might even pick through my content looking for some element that they can hang me with. go for it. scouting for it proves my point: these people don’t care.

it’s just a cool moral high ground gang that helps nobody, really. and that makes me incredibly sad to see energy spent like this when it could be directed in other areas. hunt a fucking pedo. screenshot evidence. get their address. give it to the cops. have some meaning.
