WHY ARE THEY "JUMPING ON TOP" OF AN #AUTISTIC KID HAVING A MELTDOWN? 😡 Not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES!? Literally pinning her down!? WHY!? That's not how you deal with meltdowns, and it's terrible to promote this image, esp
to people who don't know anything about #autism! https://twitter.com/scoopsahoyrobin/status/1345597455333793792
Paparazzi photos of Zu literally lying on top of Music to "calm her down" in the park. I can't even with this.

Does she know how many people die from improper restraints!? Is she unaware that you can communicate and figure out their needs instead? https://twitter.com/Harpyimages/status/1346745159065731072
This is so freaking traumatic for so many #autistic people, but nooooo, her fans will say it's okay for the movie "isn't for" us, and it's "raising awareness" of the "real" "low-functioning" autistics who "aren't on Twitter."

And the fact that she deleted all her tweets!?!? 😡
I'm sorry for going off about this first thing in the morning, but OMG, this movie is just as bad as #autistic people thought it would be. Perhaps even worse.

And the fact that the dancing in the film isn't even that complex, and could totally have been done by an autistic kid!?
Okay, I'm going to step away and try to calm down.

Everything I have to say about this has already been said by so many other amazing people - especially nonspeaking #autistic people who do, despite what she thinks, use Twitter and write blogs and more.

They deserve better.
I'll quote some tweets from nonspeaking folks later, but for now, let's just wrap it up with their hashtag.

And you can check @ekverstania's Twitter for links to some great videos and pieces of writing by nonspeaking #autistic people!

P.S. This makes me sad. There are so many #autistic advocates who are nonspeaking, #AutisticWhileBlack, or both! We could've had something beautiful, if she had gotten out of her own way and listened to autistic people. Instead she made it about herself. https://twitter.com/autistictic/status/1348603533004840961
P.P.S. Now I have some questions for the Child Mind Institute of NY.

Did a group of #autistic people, #autism caregivers, and "studiers of the brain" really watch this whole movie - and they raised no issue with the whole "lying on top of a kid" idea? 🤔 https://twitter.com/Adriana_Edu/status/1346189716962631680
A great thread from @ekverstania! It adds some interesting details to all this, and also includes links to important thoughts from nonspeaking #autistic folks - including Ido Kedar and Noah Seback. And it shares some nonspeakers' thoughts on ABA, as well. https://twitter.com/ekverstania/status/1348613742788014080
