Yesterday I was upset to see a trans group implying that not having ones identity validated was like domestic abuse. I won’t again go into how the two are not equivalent, but I want to say this; one of the things that harms confused young people and creates confusion in the first
place is adults in general, parents, health professionals, teachers etc not providing clarity of thinking on gender stereotypes. Further, and more salient to yesterday’s theme is that young people are harmed by the lack of perspective given by adults. It is so important that
perspective is offered to children & young adults. Their own perspective is limited because they have not lived long enough nor had enough experiences to gain such insight. When they feel like the world is ending because of something in reality quite small or normal in growing up
it is the adults job to calm them down and remind them that troubles often pass and they will change and won’t always feel this way. What adults shouldn’t do is wring our hands and get distressed ourselves because our youngsters are confused. That helps no one. And we certainly
shouldn’t be reinforcing false ideas about sex and gender in the current climate. Identify confusion is part of growing up. We all try out versions of ourselves as we grow, this is how we learn. But validated a young persons current view of themselves SOLIDIFIES who they are at a
given time. In the case of adolescents, &especially if they have been put on puberty blockers, these young people are being fixed physically & mentally in a almost childlike state. I know of only one group of people who are served by this. All adults need to think hard about that
