This morning I've been reading about sector based training programmes in the US.

Many have enjoyed considerable success in helping people from disadvantaged backgrounds move into highly skilled, well paid jobs.

Here are two examples.
. @ProjectQUESTInc in San Antonio, Texas boosts incomes of participants by several thousand dollars a year, even after 9 years.

. @PerScholas in NYC boosted participants' earnings by 20% over the control group:

Participants were also 6 percentage points more likely to earn over $30,000 in 2018 than members of the control group.

What can we learn from these kinds of programmes?

One key lesson seems to be that these programmes offer COMPREHENSIVE support.

It's not just about the training. They offer things like counselling, job mentoring, close ties with local businesses and even childcare.
