For me it's not just the (wilful?) misunderstanding of what is free speech versus deplatforming from the private sector. It's that a lot of you sat on your arses and watched FB et al get big by feasting on the carcasses of local media and said nothing.
You watched the press become less free and less diverse in real time and chalked it up to a free market (instead of the lobbying and collusion btw big business and big govt that it was). You watched real journalism disappear behind paywalls while Zuck hoovered up the ad revenue.
You watched independent media struggle and founder. Clickbait and fake news filled the gaps left by real news. You thought that speech was freer because everybody's auntie can now post badly Photoshopped conspiracy theories 24/7.
The right to access of information has been so cheapened and debased by the quality of information available and by political 'leadership' that has become less principled and accountable.
But please go ahead and cry about how Trump's banning - for supporting violent sedition - is the beginning of the end for free speech, not the bland and unquestioning media landscape that you watched unfolding in real time. You arseholes.
Anyway I hope everyone has a great and productive week, etc etc.
