Kevin with respect but you are being arrogant. What I mean is the following a) People are generally obeying the regulations so if they get sick it is not their fault. If you stigmatise a disease as you are obviously hinting at then people will not get tested and treated. 1 https://twitter.com/baldricman/status/1348322144174940160
b) Fact that many on social media post police on the beach arresting a kitesurfer but forget the next tweet that there are only police on the beach when they complain that people are not sticking to the regulations. (Anecdotal is not evidence of massive regulations breaches) 2
c1) Yes, I believe that the regulations often make little sense. For example, beaches limit numbers but why close as that has economic impacts which are likely to result in jobs losses. 3
c2) If you close or limit businesses and there is no monetary help and for workers, there is no more TERS then the argument for regulations becomes very thin as people have no income. (currently being discussed at the highest level. There is understanding but no more money) 4
c3 ) SA has the highest unemployment rate in the world, but there is little or no funds to support jobs at present then we are starring at a more massive disaster than we see at present. (which is why business and labour are involved in discussions) 5
d) If SA only to get enough vaccine doses for 40 million by year-end and that is debatable it means further restrictions with no help or we have to think differently. On the present trend, SA may have to open and close "mobility" a few time yet. 6
So My tweet is first about people actually being good and the disease is not their fault if they get it. One cannot make anecdotal stories a trend here. SA is in deep trouble many are living without incomes even when they had one before. 7
SA cannot afford lockdowns when we have no more money to help out with and we have the highest unemployment rate in the world. We also have lots of extreme poverty caused by unemployment. Thank you for reading.
