Just putting this out there, that Pant's control % was around 88 and Pujara's was 84 (both numbers taken an over before they got out and Pujara faced 87 balls more). Pant's stroke play might be risky, but more often than not, he's in control of it. Pujara might get out to jaffas
but more often than not, defending is a way that works for him. Larger point is, it's unfair & insane to ask each batsman to play a certain way. Different ways work for different batsmen. Pant, despite playing the non conventional way,as per the numbers was less likely to get out
However, that is not to say that batsmen shouldn't show situational awareness, they should, but to ask them to change their batting style on a the basis of a few dismissals is wrong IMO. While I have genuinely enjoyed Pant's innings, just how I liked Rohit's yesterday, but I
would have preferred if both could have stayed till till end/new ball. With Rohit, we can be slightly more critical because of his age, with Pant, we have to hope he matures as he plays more & gets better, while constantly asking him to improve. All 3, Rohit, Pujara & Pant
have brilliant on a surface that has some uncertain bounce & has probably the best bowling attack suited for it. Their dismissals shouldn't take anything away from their effort, but it's okay to feel disappointed if IND lose because it would be case of too many 'What ifs'
