This is not an argument. A reviewer should take the time and effort to explain why a movie works or doesn’t work. The only time people complain about the length of the review is when it criticizes a movie they like. https://twitter.com/cole_tdb/status/1344128602544095232
However, no one complains about the length of the review when it praises a movie they like or criticizes a movie they dislike.
People also need to understand that a lot of people do not agree that personal enjoyment translates to quality and believe that consistent standards and removing personal bias from film analysis are important.
A lot of people believe that logical consistency is an important apart of writing. I am one of these people. I believe that it takes a lot of skill for a script to flow naturally and logically consistent with the rules it establishes.
I believe a well written script does not rely on breaking the rules it establishes, unrealistic contrivances, and characters acting unbelievably stupid for the plot to progress. I’m not saying logical consistency is the only aspect of good writing but I believe it’s important.
If you don’t like long reviews or don’t care about logical consistency in film, that’s fine. I disagree but I respect your opinion. However, saying that our reviews are too long and accusing us of nitpicking just because we are criticizing a movie you like is really pretentious.
