My grandmother was a Jaffna Tamil. She never taught Tamil to mom; afraid we will be prosecuted. I remember asking her if the Sinhalese will continue to treat minorities badly — she told me when the time comes, Sinhalese will step up and defend the rights of the minorities. (1/4)
The time has come for us Sinhalese to defend the rights of our fellow Sri Lankans. Our government is going berserk; forcefully burning bodies. destroying the monuments commemorating deaths — threatening opposition politicians saying they will be killed like dogs. (2/4)
I think it's time we accept that whoever died from the war, from both sides, were Sri Lankans. They died because of racially motived politics, instigated with the intention to divide in order to win elections. Our current ruling politicians are also trying a similar tactic. (3/4)
Let us not divide, let us stay together and defend the rights of all Sri Lankans. Like my grandmother once told, the time has come now — for the Sinhalese to step up and stand for the rights and tell our ruling politicians they can shove their willful, premeditated racism. (4/4)
