I know I will receive a lot of flak for this but the Calcutta Cup was crafted by Indian silversmiths for and during Britain’s long and harrowing ruling over us. The Guiness 6 Nations is a match held between 6 yt countries. Still seems so medieval to me.
It has been fashioned with motifs specifically aligned with India’s culture. Also notice how there are the typical elephants and cobras - yt people’s fascination and fetishisation. This should honestly be retired.
Crafted in 1872, following India’s first ever introduction to rugby - formation of Calcutta Rugby Football club (Calcutta still holds a rich rugby tradition, one of the best in our country still). It is one of the oldest rugby awards to exist.
The right thing to do would be to disband 6 Nations (it currently has Scotland, England, France, Ireland, Italy and Wales) and contribute the Calcutta Cup to a commonwealth rugby league. Instead of retaining it within yt nations. Sometimes rugby is so set in its medieval ways.
