1/ So here's what I'm struggling with. I think reasonable for Apple/Google to send letter and ultimately remove Parler from App Store due to lax enforcement and also potential risks.
But why didn't Facebook also get a letter demanding they address issues or risk removal?

2/ Facebook had much bigger role in creating conditions that led to as well as organizing for January 6 event.
We tracked people using FB to organize attendees to bring guns to the Jan 6 event. FB did nothing. https://www.mediamatters.org/facebook/users-private-facebook-groups-are-encouraging-each-other-break-dc-gun-laws-ahead-election

3/ So if it's about accountability for past violations as well as preventing future threats, while Parler is certainly a concern...the big problem is actually Facebook and Facebook's either unwillingness or inability to address disinfo and violence their platform facilitates.
4/ Even the way they handled the Trump suspension tips their hand a bit. Twitter permanently bans Trump, but Facebook didn't. They suspended him...indefiniately. Or, put another way, they suspended him until the heat is of and they think it's safe to lift it.
5/ So sure, Parler is a cesspool and that cesspool no doubt would get worse and pose risk. But, Facebook remains a clear and present danger. Don't forget that and definitely don't think that by banning Parler and a few right-wing accounts that the threat is neutralized. It's not.
