These last 4 years have done nothing but solidify my previous beliefs about American evangelicalism being a civic religion, a Christianity of the land rather than what Frederick Douglass would call the “... pure, peaceable, and impartial Christianity of Christ.”
I don’t think all who are genuine within these circles - those who God loves and uses for His glory, have come to appreciate how the American evangelicalism movement came to be. I think some may see it but don’t want to admit the implications. I don’t think I’m overstating at all
Show me evangelicals who hate the political tribalism of the culture and who seek to love their neighbors via justice and equality who are not doing so while fighting a significant swath of other mainly white evangelicals from within their own ranks.
Who accuse them of Neo-Marxism, CRT, modern liberalism , post-modernism, being a Biden supporter, etc.

All of this has been a package deal within American evangelicalism. It comes with pre-packaged political and sociology beliefs that makes the accusations seem viable.
And different iterations of these accusations can be traced to Conservative christians in EVERY SINGLE ERA (slave owners v abolitionists | segregationists pro Jim Crow v Civil rights activists, etc.) same is happening now.
Since the beginning of the American project you had a large dominant group of conservative Christians accusing other Christians (even those who were also conservative/orthodox) of being deceived by the wrong political party and sociological ideas re race, justice and equality.
