A quick explanation of how asking questions about Tether, or Bitcoin, or anything else isn’t “FUD” and what it’s really about instead.

Since… you know… the internet seems confused.
1/
There’s a pernicious tendency these days to call label anyone asking questions about Bitcoin or the ecosystem a hater.

The thesis, as I see it (where “see it” is a series of profanity-laced accusations), is that question-askers are jealous about not participating in gains.
2/
Can’t speak for others, but that hasn’t been my experience. My experience (having held BTC in the past and since exited it) is simply that the structure of the trade doesn’t fit my risk profile anymore.

Let’s unpack what that 'risk profile' thing means with an example.
3/
Recently, there were some funny trades to be had for the bold. For example, you could have made 300% or something going long HTZ after they declared bankruptcy.

I’m impressed by those who did!

But the trade isn’t for me - it’s just not something I understand.
4/
Did I have “FUD” about going long Hertz during their bankruptcy? I mean… no, not really.

It’s more like the trade didn’t really fit my screener so it was just an awesome and vaguely amusing thing to watch from the sidelines.

Good on those who played it and did well!
5/
So why even talk about Bitcoin if it doesn’t come up on my screener? Why am are some of us so persistent?

Can't really speak for others, but for me the hostility that people who ask questions are met with is fascinating.

It’s compelling in an almost anthropological way.
6/
There are a lot of unanswered questions here, and I think it’s natural for even those of use who aren’t participating in the trade to pay attention to something that’s very new and running hard and fast.

Of course it’s going to attract attention!
7/
The capital flows and market dynamics in play in these new systems are also super interesting, so why not dig?

So: when questions are asked out of genuine curiosity, and the response is to rage and call it FUD, I ask you this…

…who in this equation is truly ‘afraid?’
8/
I don’t hate Bitcoin, not one bit - think it’s fascinating, always have. Over the last 8-10 years that I’ve invested in it (off and on) it’s been a pretty fun vehicle.

Seems worth continuing to try and understand both it and the entire ecosystem.

Even amidst hostility.

So look: I apologize if asking questions about this stuff comes off as snarky or annoying.

That's all just a defense mechanism because y'all don't make it easy, what with the constant cyberbullying.

Maybe we could all have a beer sometime and be curious together.

Until then:
