There has been a lot of (understandable) talk about why the Capitol invasion is worse than the BLM/antifa riots over the spring/summer. And there is HUGE hypocrisy from the media about variant coverage. No doubt. But this is why it is worse. https://twitter.com/BillWeirCNN/status/1348395383916027906
Does America MEAN anything to you? The inviolability of our form of governance, the sacredness of our capitol? Do you unironically call yourself a "patriot"? I sure do. If so, what Trump incited is far more shameful than street riots, no matter how much they were excused.
I will kick the mainstream media (and Twitter hacktivists) all over the curb six ways to Sunday for their excusemongering about the summer rioting and looting. Their shame is eternal, and I won't let them forget it. But don't use that to downplay the horror and disgrace of this.
This is a good question & deserves to be treated non-rhetorically. The reason is because millions upon millions of people saw the American media complex (and online 'influencers' who set the tenor of coverage) treat the summer rioting as somehow justified. https://twitter.com/komradequack/status/1348417323326189572
Some of you just sat through it on TV or Twitter. I *lived* it in Chicago. My neighborhood was pillaged. Stores shut, boarded up, ransacked, my wife's medications unavailable. It wasn't protest theater, we got hurt by nihilistic scum cosplaying at breaking glass to Feel Real.
And that of course is exactly what happened at the Capitol a few days ago. So here's the issue: do you want true national unity on this? On the unacceptability of this? I do. Because I agree attacking the seat of government is next-level horrifying. We gotta unite around this.
But we're never going to unite if the dominant media/academic/activist complex still sullenly insists "riots for me, but not for thee." That's why I'm newly into the Tom Cotton trip: no matter which direction the mob is heading, fuck 'em, send in the police. No exceptions.
My responses are splitting near-even between "wtf the BLM riots were righteous" and "wtf there's nothing wrong with invading the Capitol" which I suppose is a judgment upon the poor decisions I have made throughout my recent life.
