If you're new to cartomancy, but are familiar with house significations in astrology, might I suggest the horoscope spread if you want to try a larger reading?
The only basic preliminaries you need are that hearts = love, clubs = work, diamonds = finance/communication, spades = troubles, and that hearts and clubs are the most favourable, with spades being the least so. Face cards represent people's influence.
The spread above was laid regarding work prospects. The steps are relatively simple.
(1) Check the centre card. 5H suggests although the question is about work, your prospects might rely on close connections with other people.
(2) Check any houses occupied by the same number.

(2) Check any houses occupied by the same number.
Houses 2, 7 and 9 are also occupied by 5s, so will play a key role in the questions. You can use suits to weave together a narrative.
House 2 (♠︎): Monetary difficulties.
House 7 (♢): May need to borrow money from another person.
House 9 (♣︎): Publishing, teaching as work.

House 9 (♣︎): Publishing, teaching as work.
Step 3. Check the first house. A♣︎ confirms that the querent is focused on work concerns, but with an ace also in House 6 occupied by a heart, one could ask whether a change of career might be necessary for health reasons (either of oneself or another).
Step 4. Check houses connected to the question. House 10 has the Jack of Hearts. A younger (Jack) person in your family or friendship circle (Heart) may be able to lend a hand. Jack also appearing in House 3, perhaps siblings, cousins or someone close by.
Step 5. Check any other house you feel is relevant, noting stronger connections by number and looser ones by suit.
E.g. H2 has a spade (monetary problems), spades also appear in houses 4 (KS) & 8. Perhaps an older (K), less-able gentlemen in the home needs to be provided for.

I'd also probably note that house 11 has a diamond, making a loose connection with house 7 (also a diamond), which strengthens the previous message that financial assistance from friends or partners may be necessary.
There's also lots of other things you could do with this spread, but I think it's a good next step for beginners, with the added bonus that you needn't know the meanings of specific cards (relying on connections by number and suit).
(But of course, you would need to know the basic astrological house significations, but most people who follow me on here probably do know these already!)
