Just been watching Miriam Margolyes - Almost Australian. MM just said, “First Nation people have been telling stories for thousands of years. Their stories explain the world from generation to generation.” And it occurred to me that the west has learnt to weaponise stories. 1/4
We have learnt to pass on twisted lies from generation to generation to build our sense of entitlement & superiority. And even those of us that have never benefited from these lies—those that are not part of the privileged upper classes 2/4
still somehow believe that their entitlement & superiority rubs off on us. But it doesn’t. This myth of greatness is used to subdue us too, if in a less violent & oppressive way. Like Sleeping Beauty and all her household, while the thorns spread far beyond the castle wall. 3/4
But we don’t need true love’s kiss to wake up. We need the kiss of truth. Then we need to get to work undoing the damage that has been done. For it was in our power not to listen to the stories, but we just liked them too much to dismiss them. 4/4
