1. Muqawama platforms are trying to create a public persona for Abu Fadak al-Mohammedawi (aka al-Fatemi) chief of Hashd staff and to present him as the rightful successor to Muhandis. Here the poem reads: “father of Hashd [fighters] left, but their khaal [uncle] is still here”.
2. But they have a hard time selling this notion. For starters, he seems to be afraid of talking in public. He hasn't talked publicly since assuming his role a year ago. He even failed to capitalize on the first anniversary of Muhandis/QS, only stood by & listened to Ameri.
3. This is the only clip in which one can hear him talking relatively clearly. He is sending a thank you message to Hashd fighters who provided security for Arba’een pilgrimage. He seems very nervous, note his body language at 40” when he makes an error.
4. On Dec. 10 Sabreen news announced that Abu Fadak was going to give a speech; the speech never happened. His predecessor was a confident public speaker who was able to choose the right tone for various audiences. Abu Fadak lacks the basic skills of public speaking!
5. This is unsurprising as he led a secretive life for years, terrified of being seen. Note here how when QS sees Abu Fadak, he runs away b/c of the cameras that accompany QS. QS says: “come, come, come”. Someone is heard in the background saying: “he’s running from the camera”.
6. Or here in 2017 around Tal Afar, note how he has covered his face while explaining the frontline to Muhandis and Ameri. He knows this is a demon he has to overcome, if he is to be respected by his fellows, particularly those from other militias, such as Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq.
7. This is not Abu Fadak’s only problem. He’s very paranoid and cancels around half of his appointments to avoid any assassination attempts. Also, people who met him describe him as not likeable, someone lacking political and communications skills, stubborn and hard to work with.
