In 2021 I’m aiming to read/finish one book per week on average. I’ll share them on this thread with a little summary of each. This is where I’m up to so far, do get in touch for more info about any of the books...
1. Jesus in the Trinity by @LincolnHarvey - I finished this over Christmas and loved it. I’m no systematic theologian, but the way Lincoln writes and explains Robert Jenson’s theology is at times mind-blowing and leads the reader into worshipful wonder.
Good writing like this is like hearing great music for the first time - it sparks your own imagination and creativity, it gives you renewed hope and can fill you with awe at the greatness of God. Thanks for writing it, Lincoln!
2. A Promised Land by @BarackObama. This is a brilliantly-written account of Obama’s rise to the White House and his first couple of years as President. Some great reflections on leadership and a couple of fascinating insights about public speaking too. Recommended.
3. Creativity by John Cleese. Got this for Christmas. It’s interesting and really useful, but it’s basically about the length of a big magazine article or blog post, stretched using large font and big spacing to make it into a book! Get it if it’s cheap!
4. Diary of an MP’s Wife by @MPWife_ I read this over Christmas and it’s an easy read with lots of gossip and insights from the David Cameron years in politics. It is funny, fast-moving and there are some quite poignant moments too.
5. That All Shall Be Saved by David Bentley-Hart. I got a bit distracted from the argument here by the fact that the author basically says that if you don’t agree with his universalism, it’s either because you’re not intelligent enough or you are trapped by your own theology!
