well, that’s called toxic positivity.
being “comforted” by it feels like your emotions are not valid. this is a huge problem in the spiritual community & in society as a whole.

hearing “everything happens for a reason, you’ll be okay.” is not that comforting...
the above statement does not conform to everyone’s belief system and it may be the last thing someone wants to hear during hardship.

here are some alternatives to the “toxic positivity” ridden phrases.
- “you’ve survived hardships before, I believe in you.”
- “it’s okay if you’re feeling disappointed right now, i’m here with you.”
- “this is really disappointing but I understand how you’re feeling.”

the purpose of this thread is to start a conversation. not to teach or speak from a high horse.
at one point in time, we may have been the ones perpetrating “toxic positivity” or/and being on the receiver’s end of the spectrum.
