Back briefly to share something that has troubled me to no end this week...
...The lack of "highly-skilled," wealthy, privileged immigrants to the U.S. who have not spoken up to condemn the racist insurrection on the U.S. Capitol. For far too long, we've remained silent.

We move to the U.S. for freedom, wealth, democratic and well-functioning systems, but once we get here, we're fully complicit in upholding white supremacy and individualism, focused on "as long as we get out paychecks and our families are fine, why bother? America is great"
We have no sense of responsibility to, or solidarity with, our Black and other POC communities who have long been oppressed. We strive towards a white ideal, touting to our families back home how "lucky" we are to be here AND aligning ourself with whiteness at EVERY opportunity
We're among the wealthiest (by racial income group, ack. "Asian" is a flawed and incomplete demographic category"...especially Indian American immigrants. And yet, when it comes to actively participating in the democracy and liberation of this country, we are nowhere to be found
I'm disheartened by the number of people I know in this group who are more concerned with stock options and promotions than with taking a moment to even think about how our influence in this country (tied with our wealth) must stand shoulder-to-shoulder in undoing anti-Blackness
I'm not saying I'm great at this. I've donated very modestly to political campaigns. I've tried to amplify the amazing WOC running for office, but that's just a passive thing. I was with @Seawomenscomm but left in 2019. My work is tiny and I need to be more involved too.
Ok, that's it. Off to get more coffee. Please comment if you have seen great organisation around this--more privileged immigrant communities doing actual work in upholding democracy and undoing anti-Blackness. Thank you and see you tomorrow.
The lack of....Who HAVE* (apologies, need more coffee)
