that's the thing about whiteness. people see it as unmarked. so it's reasonable to talk about race in something like Watchmen or Lovecraft Country, with an integrated cast. but when most people are white, it's not supposed to be relevant. 2
but of course it is relevant. the leads in Discovery of Witches are the leads because they're white; the default is considered white unless you have some reason to change it. 3
the result is fewer roles for Black actors, and stories like Discovery of Witches which appropriate experiences of racial discrimination for white people. 4
