Future Soldiers and SplitOp Soldiers are YOUR SQUAD. They occupy a paragraph and line number on your UMR. They are accountable to us as we are to them. They drill from day one.

You keep them engaged, you teach them everything they can possibly be taught on the job before they ship to BCT and AIT. BE ESPECIALLY MINDFUL of your SplitOp soldiers. They may have sworn in as MINORS. They graduate BCT? They are a SOLDIER just not MOS-Q. Engage and train them.
If you don’t know what they have going on, their living arrangements, what they do, when they’re shipping, difficulties shipping, when they graduate, if they’re home on HBL, when they’re due back, OR YOU JUST DONT CARE get the hell out of my way AND LET ME DO YOUR JOB FOR YOU.
There is NOTHING wrong with “that generation”. The problem is OUR lack of heart for all parts of OUR profession. If you think this job is one weekend a month, you’re wrong. They don’t cease to exist because they aren’t right in front of you the rest of the month.
