Looks like someone just looked up the wikipedia page. People like Gerry don't understand historical analogies like this because they do not understand history. Kristallnacht was not just an isolated event with some attached statistics. https://twitter.com/GerryCallahan/status/1348326275300126721
The NSDAP took over in 1933. For the next five years the Nazis would strip Jews of their rights and property, invalidate their passports, ban them from journalism and civil service positions. The Nazis slowly normalized hatred and bigotry until 1938.
On 10 November, a German diplomat was shot by a German-born Jew in Paris. If all the normalized hatred was kindling, this act was the lit match. The German society's underlying bigotry, antisemitism and hatred turned into outright public persecution.
Kristallnacht marked the moment when it became socially acceptable to express, through action and violence, hatred and bigotry.
Societal violence exists on a spectrum. First you push what's okay to say, then you push what's okay to do. The more inches you give fascism, the quicker it makes a mile. The President's rhetoric for the last five years led us directly to this moment.
The comparison to Kristallnacht is one that is fair, because as a society we can either punish violent, bigoted and hateful insurrectionists, or we can ignore them and thus normalize this kind of political violence. Gerry Callahan is an uninformed reactionary.
